Healthy wine? Yes please!

Two wines... one yogi.

I was sent two bottles of  FitVine Wine to try. One Chardonnay, and one Cabernet Sauvignon.
With the help of my husband we dove in to try this new "healthy wine". I have to admit. I was expecting it to taste bad. I was mistaken. We started with an ice cold Chardonnay.  I actually went : "WOW!" when I took my first smell and taste. It was so refreshing. I don't usually reach for a Chardonnay so this really surprised me how much I loved it! I would love to put a case of that on our sailboat for our next trip! So good!
Later in the evening we opened the Cabernet with our dinner. I enjoyed sipping it. It is one I could easily see myself buying on a regular basis. Not a wow factor like the white, but for the health benefits and the fact that it tastes far better than most affordable bottles out there. It gets two thumbs up.
The winner was definitely the Chardonnay though!

Did you know?...Not all wines are the same. Course Man had to come in and screw up another thing that actually used to be good for you in small amounts. Now many wines are have impurities, additives, coloring, extra sugar, high levels of arsenic and so on. The founders of FitVine Wine wanted to create wines that were made with the best processes and ingredients, without sacrificing taste or alcohol, and they did it!

is a craft wine company, dedicated to making high quality wines for athletes by sourcing local, artisan, estate grown grapes. They have created a high quality wine that fits healthy lifestyles and tastes great!
Their proprietary blend delivers a high quality wine with higher antioxidants, no residual sugar and less sulfites.

Why FitVine Wine?

If you want technical terms... here you go, straight from their site:"Resveratrol, polyphenols and proanthocyanidins are found in higher concentrations in grape skins from grapes grown in higher, cooler elevations. Resveratrol is a member of a group of plant compounds called polyphenols. These compounds are thought to have antioxidant properties, protecting the body against the kind of damage linked to increase risk for conditions such as cancer and heart disease. Resveratrol is found in the skin of the grape. Our wines can have up to 10x higher levels of Resveratrol than other wines.

Our grapes are grown in higher places such as here in the Sierra foothills above 2000′ elevation. Wines made from grapes from this area and elevation aid in the strength and concentration of beneficial compounds compared to warmer weather grapes. Our answer to this is a minimum of 10 day, extended whole cluster fermentation for maximum skin and seed contact."

My favorite multi-purpose legging

I am a pretty well rounded gal. I like the beach and the mountains. I love the water, and I love the sand. I love my yoga, and get high off a good cardio session. So what is a girl to do? My solution was Luna Jai. Their capri's are multi-functional. Suitable for the beach, the gym, the yoga studio, and suitable for the pool.

What I love the most about these capri's is that I can go from a hardcore insanity max 30 workout to a vigorous vinyasa class without having to change. I have a lot of nice yoga pants, but if you are jumping up and down hardcore with Shaun T, they don't stay on. Gravity takes over and you are constantly pulling them up. Not with Luna Jai. I like that I don't have to think about anything but my workout when I am wearing them.

My other favorite thing about Luna Jai is their bright colors and patterns. I love to express myself with color. Before my yoga days my Mom used to always say I wore black. Can't say that about me anymore! I love wearing them. The colors make me happy.

Best part? If you want them, you can get them %15 off with code: momwhatsfordinner at checkout.

I run many challenges hosted by Luna Jai check them out on Instagram @lunajaiathletic

San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival Grand Tasting

This last Saturday, November 23, 2013 I was blessed to attend the Grand Tasting Event for the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival. Like every year, it was held at the beautiful Embarcadero Marina Park North.
It was so beautiful outside, the perfect day for this event. Thousands of people showed up to enjoy this event.

We were able to take in the beautiful San Diego Bay and enjoy the ocean breeze as we partook in the largest, most talked about wine and food festival in Southern California.
It is glass clinking, celebrity watching, swishing, swirling, mouth watering kind of fun!

With over 700 different wines being poured at this year's Grand Tasting, we couldn't make it to all of them. We got to taste from a wide range of domestic and international wineries, discover new labels to add to our home collection, and visit old favorites.
My favorite part is tasting 70 of San Diego's Top Chefs culinary creations. I love watching the chef's in action!
What makes it so amazing is these chefs pulled out all the stops to wow us for their chance to win over $50,000 in cash and prizes! So the food was top notch!

As if 70 chefs weren't enough they also brought together over 30 gourmet food companies for us to nosh our way through.

Even if you don't like wine. There is plenty of cocktails and beer to enjoy. If you are just there to eat, they even have designated driver tickets at a significant discount.

Celebrity chefs were on hand in the Festival product booth to autograph copies of their best selling cookbooks.
Malarkey from "The Taste".

Once again, this was the San Diego event of the year. If I could only do one event each year, it would be this one. The dates for next year have not been announced yet, but it is almost always in November. So make sure you make it next year!!!

Fish Taco TKO Competition

Last night I had the joy of going to The San Diego Classics: Fish Tacos and Craft Beers Featuring the Fish Taco TKO Competition located at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens.
They have a beautiful outside garden/seating area.
It was lit up and beautiful for the evening.
The goal of the night was to find the best fish taco. There were so much to choose from!

To say we walked out of there full would be an understatement.
I did not have a bad taco.
The fish was all so fresh.
So I didn't have to worry too much about quality.
My husband had a ball trying all of the different craft beers.

We met a ton of nice people! Everyone was socializing, smiling, eating, and laughing.
It was a great evening.
You may have missed this event, but it is not too late to take part in the fun of the San Diego Food and Wine Classic. There are so many more events happening this week.
Tonight I am covering SWISH. This was my favorite event last year. You can read all about last year's event here.
Tonight I get to hang with Richard Blais.
He is perhaps the most recognized the winner of Bravo’s “Top Chef All-Stars,” and he is also known for his innovative and personal take on classic American bistro cuisine. Should be a good night tonight. Come on out for some serious sips and urban eats! http://www.sandiegowineclassic.com/events.html

Family Winemakers of California Wine Tasting

This past weekend,  March 9 - 10 at Del Mar Fairgrounds, I had the honor of attending the Family Winemakers of California Wine tasting event!  I am excited to share information about this tasting with you! What is Family Winemakers of California? Family Winemakers of California was founded in 1991 to give voice and presence to small, family wineries in the public policy arena.  Family Winemakers and 160 of its members came to San Diego the 5th annual tasting at Del Mar Fairgrounds. Over 1,000 people attended tasting everything from lovely whites, to deep reds.
You can see the list of all the participating Wineries HERE
There were wineries from Mendocino to Temecula and every place in between. You can view the tasting program HERE.
I loved this event. The Wineries had great people pouring their wine were very knowledgeable. I learned so much from them!
Everyone was happy of course because who isn't happy when they are having wine?
The event had some great breads and cheese and other yummy treats to eat in between tastings to clear your palate!
The event was alphabetized which really was great. It made it so easy to find your favorites, and also allowed to find a lot of new loves!
I was really happy to taste Fiddlehead Sauvignon Blanc. I am a big fan of the wine movie "Sideways" and it was a featured wine in the movie that the director actually wrote into the script because they loved the wine so much.
To sum up the event; It was 2 days of sunshine, wine, food, and friends. With the amount of people in attendance, I think it was a success for the wineries and a day of fun for the attendees. I highly recommend this event if you love wine. I can't wait to go again next year!

If this event looks like it is up your alley, you are in luck!
